EMDR: Latest research and future directions

APS Unpacking Trauma Symposium

Since the first paper on eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) was published by Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s, there have been more than 30 publications investigating the efficacy of EMDR for individuals with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In addition to this, especially over the last decade, extensive research has been conducted evaluating the efficacy of EMDR as a treatment for a range of disorders including depression, anxiety disorders, addictions, and eating disorders. In this presentation, Sarah will provide a critical summary of the current literature, focusing on relevance for clinicians looking for guidance in their clinical work.
